A Tampa man has been arrested in Texas for using fake credit cards to steal $150,000. He is set to be extradited to Florida.
The Charges
Kevin Anderson, 27, is charged with:
- An organized scheme to defraud
- Criminal use of personal identification information
- Possession of a counterfeit credit card
Anderson is accused of stealing personal information from 20 victims in Florida and making recoded and embossed credit cards that look like real credit cards.
Fraudulent purchases were made across several areas of Florida and ranged from a $49,000 tire purchase to pet food.
An investigation run by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office found Anderson used aliases in at least 10 other cases across the state of Florida.
The Arrest
On July 1st, he was caught in Cherokee County, after he allegedly stole fireworks from a roadside stand. He led deputies on a 100 mph chase in a U-Haul truck through two Texas counties and was stopped after his vehicle was spiked by deputies.
Once he is extradited to Florida, he will be prosecuted by Whitney Mackay, the Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor for the Cyber Fraud Enforcement Unit.
