Alternatives to Diversion and MIP programs

Ben Stechschulte

As most Tampa Criminal Defense Attorneys will tell you, many times people will call after they have entered an MIP/Diversion Program asking if they can get out of the program because it is too hard to complete.  If they had just contacted a Tampa Criminal Defense Lawyer before entering the program, they likely could have had a Tampa Criminal Defense Lawyer set up an alternative easier sentence for the client.

For example, as a Tampa Criminal Defense Attorney I often have clients complete community service hours or drug/alcohol counselling before we go to court.  I then present the proof that the person completed those hours and counselling to the prosecutor and request that the prosecutor drop the charges.
